In a brilliant move, Parallels have taken a cue from the ‘real’ PC makers and have begun the process of bundling software with their virtual machines.
The final build of Parallels
, released 2/28/07, includes Kasperskys Internet Security 6. All indications are that this is a full version, with no references to licensing or ‘pay to keep using it’.
A full version of Kaspersky Internet Security (normally $60USD) is now installable, via the ‘Actions’ menu…

Today, Parallels released the final version of their Mac version. Since the Parallels site is currently getting hammered, we’ve placed a direct download link after the jump.
We’ll also add things of note as we explore the new version:
Looks like a new thing is bundling. A full version of Kaspersky Internet Security (normally $60USD) is installable, via the ‘Actions’ menu…

Last Fall, I become acquainted with someone via Craigslist while looking for an old iMac. We met and exchange info and I bought an iMac from him. Then, a little while later. he contacted me to let me know he had acquired ‘a few’ more, and asked if I would be interested. I was.
A few weeks later, he called to say he had some Blue/White G3 towers also. I was interested in them also. So, after a week or so, I went down to check them out and came home with a couple…

We all have our favorites, don’t we? Here are some of our favorite sources for Mac news, rumors, commentary and discussion that you should add to your bookmarks! Feel free to post yours below.
Daring Fireball – John Gruber writes some of the best Mac and tech related articles out there. His insight and wisdom are usually brilliant and concise. He has a wicked sense of humor too.
David Pogue – Pogue is a well known author, ‘pundit’ and tech enthusiast. He’s written numerous books and his column in the New York Times is an excellent tech resource.
Thanks to the innovative technologies that allow users of Intel based Macs to run Windows, we now possess an amazing opportunity to have the best of both worlds. And the worst…
As in real-life, living on the edge of the tracks on the wrong side of town (whew, metaphor overload…that reads like a BonJovi lyric.) has it’s downside.
Viruses, spyware, malware, trojans, worms, ActiveX and more can turn your $2000 Mac into a lump of shiny plastic that does nothing more than taunt you and question your parentage.
To protect your Mac from the nasty stuff that can be found on Windows computers, there are a few ways to go. In this article, we’ll recap some of the obvious and not-so-obvious methods you can use to make your Mac run Windows safely and smoothly.

The winner of the Logo contest is this entry from Matt Peltier.

The logo is a clever play on the original Mac logo, which showed two happy Macs facing each other. This version take that to a naughty but innocent place and certainly references the inspiration for the BGM name.
We’re very excited that we’ve found a new logo, thanks to votes from our visitors! Second and third place go to these entries:
#2 is from Sandy Sanders:

And #3 is from MacKensie Mathison:

Another site that I operate, Techpedia.org, is being assimilated into BGM as of today. Techpedia was originally slated to be a wiki style site, but it gradually turned into a news/tips/tutorials site for general tech interests.
Over the last few months though, it’s been almost all Mac related, and now with BGM active and going well, I’ve decided to close Techpedia and send it’s traffic here.
I’ll be moving all of the Techpedia content here over the next few days, and will likely assign them to a Tag called ‘techpedia’, for easier access to those visiting Techpedia and ending up here.
Thanks for …

Welcome to the Tuesday TipFest. In an attempt to create some consistency for our articles, we’ll be publishing Tips on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Today we’ll be discussing Microsoft Entourage, which is part of Microsoft’s Office fleet. Entourage aims to be the ‘end all-be all’ solution for email, tasks, contacts, calendaring and project management, and overall it does a pretty good job.
Where it fails, however, is in being intuitive, easy to use, responsive or task-centrically oriented. Other than those tiny little shortcomings, it is aces.
That being said, what follows are some tips and tricks for making your Entourage easier to use. Join us now as we delve into the inner workings of Microsoft Entourage.
Dear Apple,
We’ve owned iPods since the first version. In fact, we’ve had one of each generation/iteration to date. We’ve been fairly happy overall with your wonderful little music machine.
However, today we come to you, hat in hand, asking for a feature to be added to the next firmware revision (in particular to the 5th gen video, thanks).
As you know, when a track is playing, you can hit the ‘(c)enter’ button and toggle from song position to ratings to the artwork display screen.
We respectfully request that you add the following set of toggles.

Perils in Parallels? – Security Fix
A technology blogger for the Washington Post has posted an article about the extreme danger that Mac users are in by running Windows inside a Parallels VM.
Aside from a few ’slippery slope’ allegations, the underlying implication is that it is Parallels, not Windows, that provides the security issue.
Granted, Parallels could make things clearer in these dialogs:

For instance, making ‘Read Only’ the default setting might be a good idea, with a …
