Sometimes it’s hard to tell in todays crazy, mixed-up world what’s in a name.
Is that bizarre new word you heard on the bus a Web site that allows you to show pictures of your cat and tell the world what cute thing it and your significant other did today, or is it a prescription drug that helps you cope with the fact that your partner has left you and your cat died of starvation (because it was allergic to ramen noodles and Mountain Dew) and nicotine exposure?
Hopefully this little refresher quiz will help you cope. Hover …

I don’t care what anyone says – he’s SO white.
We’ve already learned that President Bush’s “iPod One” is loaded with songs from Van Morrison, George Jones, Joni Mitchell and the Knack. And we’re not sure what is on Republican presidential nominee Senator John McCain’s MP3 player (if he has one), but a revealing peek at Democratic candidate Senator Barack Obama’s iPod reveals a playlist that ranges from jazz to hip-hop, pop and roots rock.
For a candidate who has already shown that he knows how to …

If you are a Firefox user and have decided to go with version 3, good news! The special optimized version known as BonEcho is now ‘MineField’ and is available for download.
Neil Bruce Lee has been doing the Intel (as well as G4/G5) versions of the Firefox builds for quite a while now…optimizing them to remove extraneous code, slimming them down and making them overall faster and better. Making them, if you will, super browsers capable of destroying small cities without issue.
We highly recommend checking out these free and enhanced versions. Maybe toss him a book …

Are you a Leopard guru type person? Have you somehow managed to make Leopard behave?
We are looking for someone who can help us integrate an xServe running Leopard server into an existing Windows 2003 Active Directory environment. Our IT staff is overwhelmed already and trying to bitch-slap Leopard into working properly is becoming a serious time waster.
We need to be able to manage our Mac users and apply the same policies as our Windows users. Additionally, we need to setup iChat server for jabber based communications throughout the organization across the forest (4 …

An email to .Mac members today indicates that traditional web access to Bookmarks is going the way of the Newton as of July 1, 2008:
Dear .Mac member:
As you may know, your .Mac subscription is being upgraded to MobileMe, Apple’s new Internet service for your Mac, iPhone, iPod touch, and PC. This includes a new way to manage bookmarks across your computers and even push them over the air to your iPhone and iPod touch.
As part of the transition to MobileMe, web access to your .Mac Bookmarks will end in July 2008 and you will no longer be able to access …

Is something strange in your neighborhood? Is something wrong, and it don’t look good? Are you seeing things, running though your head?
Well then, maybe you need some tech support! This open thread is where to post your ‘how the hell do I do that’ questions and get help from the BGM community. Be sure to give specifics (versions, machine types, etc) so we can help you better.
I’ll kick things off with this one:
In iTunes 7.6.2 for Mac, I subscribe to the remix.nin.com podcast. I have a Smart Playlist that shows only those tracks. However, iTunes will only play …

Ha! You thought this was one of these lame quizzes that tried to define you by the answers you give, didn’t you? How silly you are!
We asked this question last year, and the answer was overwhelmingly in the favor of Parallels. Now that the field has matured and there are more choices and stability amongst the various apps, what’s your answer today?

Excited about the upcoming release of Apples MobileMe, which will sync your contacts, mail, iCal and more from your Mac or iPhone or Web browser? Of course you are, otherwise you’re not human – which is a different issue altogether.
Well guess what – we have a way to save you $30 off of MobileMe.
Since current .Mac users get a free upgrade to the MobileMe service, you can purchase .Mac from Amazon at the low, low price of $69 ($30 off of Apples retail price) and when Me rolls around in July you’ll have …
