Below are posts from July 2008
A few days ago I asked an iPhone dev how he and his ilk would send out updates/upgrades to their customers. He either didn’t know or couldn’t say due to the recently lifted NDA, but his answer at the time was ‘no idea‘.
But now we know that when an app is updated, the developer raises a flag when updating on iTunes. The App Store then notifies the customer in both mediums, both iTunes and the iPhone/Touch. A quick and easy reinstall of the app then occurs, making it easy to get patches or feature updates.
In a related vein, …
Very decent article on Gizmodo about making your fancy new iPhone last a little longer.

1. Turn down the LCD. The new iPhone’s screen is brighter, but you shouldn’t be running this thing at full heat if you want to save battery power. I keep mine at 10% brightness. Change this under Settings -> Brightness.
2. Wi-Fi new network scanning off or Wi-Fi off. While you’re not checking data for more than a few seconds at a time, I’d turn off Wi-Fi and in general, I’d turn off Wi-Fi scanning. It uses less power than EDGE or 3G but …
iPhone, schmiPhone.
This is the new hotness, baby!

Does Palm know that they died 4 years ago? Someone should really tell them…
PS: Wouldn’t you hate to be their Marketing department, having to follow the 3g launch with THIS? Poor bastards…
For the umpteenth time in less than a decade, Apple, the great satan, has released another product which renders obsolete all accessories made for previous iterations of the same product.

I am speaking, of course, about the new 3g iPhone. The 3g stands for ‘3rd goddamned time I’ve had to buy a new car charger and/or case’ in the past year.
Seriously, I am well aware that the accessories market for Apple products (particularly the iPhone and iPod) is a billion dollar business. i know that hundreds of companies make their living …

This is working for now, but it seems to be a little flaky – hopefully an rss feed will be forthcoming
I won’t comment too in depth on this, but I’d hate to be a member of the Apple implementations team today, what with the .Mac to MobileMe transition failing so miserably (still not up as of a few minutes ago) and then todays activation server failures.
As someone who stood at an Apple store from 6:30a to 12:30p, only to walk out with both an old and a new iPhone – neither of which were working, I’m sorely disappointed. My new phone finally sent me a ‘welcome’ text message at 2:45p – but still can’t connect to iTunes to …
As you likely know, iTunes 7.7 has been released, and the iPhone application store is now live. If you’re looking for the free stuff first, try this link:

This will list all of the apps that are, for now, free. Of particular note are AIM, Facebook, MySpace (ugh) and Twitterific (which is shareware on the Mac.
Remember: you have to have the 2.0 firmware installed to use these apps – that is expected to ‘officially’ come out this morning, but is available via stealth mode if you just can’t wait.
Note: I have to admit I am a …
