3 Entourage Tips & Tricks

2 - Shiny, happy people

Have you ever created an Entourage distribution group and needed to export it or back up it's contents? Not so easy, is it? No...in fact, it's impossible, using standard convention. But you can actually do it without much fuss. Here's all you need to do:

Open Entourage to your Address Book view:

Entourage6

Highlight/select the Group you need to export, then simply drag it out onto your Desktop, where it shows as a text clipping. You can now drag and drop the data into any file you wish.

Entourage7-1

Entourage8

Unfortunately, Entourage doesn't support exporting Groups through any specific commands or actions, but this drag and drop functionality makes this lack of foresight more bearable.

And as a little quickie tip: you can drag pretty much ANYTHING out of Entourage, including mailboxes, for easy archiving.

  • I found your article because I was searching for Entourage tips. I want to customize my Entourage desktop so that I can see my mail, tasks, and calendar all at the same time. I'm having trouble doing that without creating a project. I'm not sure if that's what I should do, but it's the only way I van get there right now. I tried using custom views but it didn't really address my needs. I just don't want to have to tab back and forth.
  • Christopher, acknowledging this dashboard customization limitation, you may want to try using hotkeys to quickly switch views: CMD+1 for Mail, CMD+2 for Address Book, CMD+3 for Calendar, etc.
