3 - Color your world!

One of the handiest ways to manage email and other items in Entourage is by using colors. Most people respond better to visual cues than textual, so by using color one can quickly and easily differentiate between what’s important and what’s trash.

The best way to assign colors is to use ‘Categories’. Click the small drop-down arrow beside ‘Categories’ and you are presented with a dialog that allows you to customize your categories and colors:

You can then use the Rules functionality to automatically categorize messages according to their content:

This gives us the following type of view in our message list:

There are dozens of criteria available to manage mail using Rules. Be creative…include such rules as ‘mail from my boss’, ‘personal mail’, ‘receipts’, and so on.

I found your article because I was searching for Entourage tips. I want to customize my Entourage desktop so that I can see my mail, tasks, and calendar all at the same time. I'm having trouble doing that without creating a project. I'm not sure if that's what I should do, but it's the only way I van get there right now. I tried using custom views but it didn't really address my needs. I just don't want to have to tab back and forth.
