Hitachi recently released their 500gb laptop drive, which is a perfect fit in the Macbook Pro, coincidentally. Here are five reasons you should consider an upgrade.
- It’s cheap. The drive is currently only $229 from TigerDirect!
- It’s easy. Using this guide as a reference, you can have the drive installed within half an hour. If you are installing in a different Mac, navigate the iFixIt site to find your specific computer - they have dozens of upgrade guides available.
- It’s big! The drive is almost double the size of the largest drive available from Apple (300gb), giving you space to store even more movies, music and pictures than ever before.
- It’s convenient. No more carrying around external drives or tons of discs. You can keep your installation media or even complete DVDs on your system and never even notice the space is gone.
- It’s expandable. You can use your old drive as a backup disk! By putting it in an external hard drive enclosure
, you can leave the old one at home or the office - this way you have a time machine ready backup disk, ready to go!
I did this upgrade myself earlier this week, on my 17″ Macbook Pro. It took about 20 minutes and was much easier than I anticipated. Truly a great and worthwhile upgrade - one that I wholeheartedly recommend.
