A mere three months into the existence of the iPhone, there have been tremendous advances from the development community that has embraced it.

While Apple has released what can only be called a truly bad-ass device, it’s the hackers and coders who have truly made the iPhone a device worth having.

Here are just a few of the things that you, an iPhone owner, should have on your iPhone.

1.) Installer.app (AppTap) - This program, available from nullriver.com, is easy to install on your iPhone and gives you the capability to download new programs directly from the phone and install/update/uninstall them with just a click or two.

As you can see in this screenshot, there are already a plethora of apps available, and more are added all the time.

2.) SummerBoard - The iPhone dock, also known as the ‘SpringBoard’ houses your icons for apps. SummerBoard allows you to manipulate this area by adding as many apps as you want and making the area scrollable, as well as putting your wallpaper on the ‘home’ screen.

3.) SongSender - Another great program installable by AppTap is SongSender, which allows you to select a track from your library and send it via email or, even better, make it available as a ringtone you can then select it from any ring tone choice dialog, for instance if you want to assign a special song for a special caller…

4.) rSBT - Definetly a must have, rSBT gives you the power to choose which icons show up in your app area, lets you choose which apps to show in the Dock, and even lets you decide how many apps are shown there (for instance, 5 instead of the default 4).

5.) Last but not least is an app called iNdependence, which is actually run on your Mac as opposed to these others, which are for your actual iPhone.
iNdependence makes it easy to activate your iPhone, ‘jailbreak’ it (which means making it writeable by other apps), install Unix tools such as SSH and SFTP and to browse the iPhone filesystem to quickly add ring tones, wallpapers and applications.
