Apple and Cisco resolve iPhone issue

According to Business 2.0, Apple and Cisco have likely reached an agreement in regard to the name ‘iPhone’, ending a great deal of confusion amongst those of us who have drank the kool-aid:

But now it appears that Apple and Cisco have been deep in negotiations over the iPhone name for a while. Here’s the statement Cisco’s giving out:

Given Apple’s numerous requests for permission to use Cisco’s iPhone trademark over the past several years and our extensive discussions with them recently, it is our belief that with their announcement today Apple intends to agree to the final documents and public statement that were distributed to them last night and addressed a few remaining items. We expect to receive a signed agreement today.

Owen Thomas continues: This could end in a whimper: Apple and Cisco sign the agreement as planned. Or it could end with a bang: Apple ditches the agreement and fights Cisco over “iPhone”. Apple has fought the Beatles’ label, Apple Corps, for years over the “Apple” name so it’s not like its lawyers aren’t well-versed in trademark battles.
