WildCharge Pad for iPhone – the BGM Review

By now you've likely seen one of the many solutions available for charging your iPhone without a cable attached. Using wireless energy transfer, these devices are pretty cool time savers. Of the variants currently on the market, we got our hands on the WildCharge Pad ( http://www.shoppureenergy.com/store/wildcharge-pad/ ) from Pure Energy.

The WildCharge set comes with a pad that is about 6" x 8" and is plated in a shiny silver finish that matches most modern electronics. It also includes a case for the iPhone (amongst a number of other devices it is made for). The case, while slightly bulky, fits well and allows for easy access to all ports necessary fro daily use of the phone. However, it does have a flaw that, in my case, rendered it unusable for everyday usage: in order to sync your iPhone, it is necessary to remove the case. As I mentioned, it fits well - in fact a little too well, so removing the case is a bit of a struggle that usually results in toggling the volume switch on the phone, leading to missed calls or loud ringing during inopportune moments.
If you don't sync your phone daily it probably won't bother you as much, but I add music and apps frequently, so it drove me a tiny bit crazy.

So far as actually doing what it is designed to do, the WildCharge works great. It's very handy to be able to drop your phone on the pad and simply pick it up and walk away when you need to. The entire time the phone is on the pad, it is charging slowly. At the end of a normal workday, you can head home with a fully charged phone without ever having to worry about plugging and unplugging from a charger.

On a side note, one thing that would be a welcome addition for future versions might be a pad that plugs into your Mac via USB and that would allow for syncing while the phone is on the pad. I'm sure that is just around the corner - or at least I hope it is.
:-)

Summary:
The WildCharge Pad for iPhone is a great product with a minor flaw that could easily be remedied with a modification to the design. If you don't sync often you won't even notice though. It does exactly what it is designed to and does so without any fuss or issues. It also draws quite a bit of attention - people who see it are impressed by the fact that it is wireless and so easy to use.
