Finally, Mac users get a little love from the Google Desktop team!

What is the Google Desktop, you may find yourself asking? Well Skippy, here's the deal: Google Desktop creates an index of your system and its contents, then returns the results in a familiar Google interface, as if you were searching the web. In fact, it can display results of searches of either kind with results from both the internet and your system.

After installing it, relaunch your browser, then hit the Apple key twice (you can change this in preferences):

For instance, if you search for 'parallels', Google Desktop will show you local and web based results, like so:

It can also show local results only:

Much like QuickSilver or other launchers of that ilk, Google Desktop can also launch applications or documents:

Another cool feature - Google Updater shows you what Google apps you have installed and what versions they are:

While it may not replace all of your search tools or launchers, it is certainly a nice addition to your arsenal.
