Leopard 10.5.2 update adds DVD sharing, better Stacks, translucent Menu bar and remote backup!

Apple iTunes

  • DVD/CD Sharing, as seen on the new Macbook Air

    Picture 81-1

  • I can't believe I didn't think to test this: Time Machine can also use a disk connected to your Airport Extreme as a backup location, hooray!

    tm_express
Yes, the Extreme is named Express. Force of habit of calling it that for years, sorry.

  • Time Machine drop down in menubar
  • Hey, look - Time Machine can backup to a network drive again!
    Picture 82
  • Translucent Menu bar option in Desktop Preferences
    Picture 78
  • Better Stacks options, including List, Folder and Grid views
    Picture 79Picture 80
'Folder' shows the icon as, well, a Folder and 'Stack' shows the most recent documents icon.

This one is for commenter #14...

The 10.5.2 release of Leopard is expected to be released at any time.

But I *love* the translucent menu bar, still highly visible text (maybe not for old people though, but then OS X fonts are probably too small anyway), and aesthetically blends better into the desktop.

Hi, Jan. Speak for yourself. At 76 I may well have better eyesight than you do, and have no problem with even smaller fonts. :-)

The trouble with a transparent menu bar is that I put up my own Desktop pictures, some of which have dark areas under the menu bar. Try reading a black font on a black background. That's when a more opaque menu bar is appreciated.

I just tried dark photos, light photos, solid colours, black, white, grey, greens, blues…

It really didn't seem to make any difference what colour the photo was or what was on the desktop… Maybe there is a combination that doesn't work with the transparent menubar, but I haven't found it yet…

Having said that, I guess it's good we will have the option to turn that off, I hope they give us the option to remove the 3D dock. I already have that turned off, but it would be nice if that was “official” too…
