No butts about it
Hello, gentle readers. We need your opinions on something of great import.
As many of you know, BabyGotMac was started in January of 2007. Shortly after, we had a logo contest which was handily won by the lovely, talented and extremely patient Matt Peltier. The idea to make the logo encompass the Mac logo of days past was, I admit, entirely Matts. It was, let's face it, nothing short of genius.
Then in around April of this year, another reader (Evan) sent in the updated logo you currently see on the site - apropos of nothing and asking for the same. He was kind enough to allow me to use it in exchange of some BGM branded swag from our CafePress store (which I haven't gotten around to updating with the new logo, sadly). The update 'glassified' the logo and made the colors a little richer and deeper as well as providing a jumping off point for the updated layout and design of the site.
Anywho...this morning I had an email in my inbox from yet another reader, which I shall quote in part here:
I just want to let you know that I have been a reader since your fourth day of publication, and I have very rarely ever missed a post.
This is constructive feedback, and is not meant to insult you in any way.
Your site has built up enough traffic (especially the RSS feed) that you should really consider retiring the logo. Although it was cute and funny at first, if you want to be in the top ten or top five mac sites of all time you really should think about going with a more conservative, less offensive logo that people can read at work without people asking "Whats that butt on your screen" ?
So I ask you, my friends: should we drop the logo and replace it with something that isn't quite so NSFW, or just perhaps tweak the site itself to display the logo less prominently while keeping the logo itself - or do we just leave it like it is? Do we vote for change or do we go with experience?
Your votes and comments are welcome - let us know what you think!
