Parallels bundles av/malware protection

In a brilliant move, Parallels have taken a cue from the 'real' PC makers and have begun the process of bundling software with their virtual machines.

The final build of ParallelsClick here to purchase, released 2/28/07, includes Kasperskys Internet Security 6. All indications are that this is a full version, with no references to licensing or 'pay to keep using it'.

A full version of Kaspersky Internet Security (normally $60USD) is now installable, via the 'Actions' menu...

For both Parallels and Kaspersky, this is a great idea. By making the Windows experience as safe and secure as possible for Mac users who are new to Windows, as well as to veteran switchers, they've managed to fill in the holes that could cause potential problems on a Mac system.

Coupled with the recent addition of security fixes such as modifying how the Mac filesystem is accessed (by default, it was wide open from Windows, now it has to be checked and understood by the user), Parallels has moved the virtualization bar to a new level.

The unanswered question remains though: what's next? Are we going to see Roxio and McAfee and Skype bundled next? Hopefully if this happens, it will be a user choice as Kaspersky is...just another click to install 'value added programs' as opposed to making them part of the Parallels Tools installation.
