Tip: Boot a VMWare Fusion machine to a CD/DVD

A question I had yesterday and saw asked on Twitter today was 'How do I boot a Fusion virtual machine to a CD or DVD'? The answer is to add a single line to your virtual machines configuration file. Here's how:

Navigate to your virtual machines home folder:

Right (or control) click your virtual machine file:

Choose 'Show Package Contents'. A new Finder window will open. Right click the file ending in the file extension '.vmx' using TextEdit or your favorite text editor:

Add this line anywhere in the file, then save it:  bios.forceSetupOnce = “TRUE”

When the virtual machine starts, you will be in the VMware Fusion BIOS screen - navigate to the 'Boot' menu, move the CD drive to the top of the list by hitting the "+" key, then save and exit.

When your vm starts, you will be given the boot menu from your CD/DVD - tada!
