Tip: Spaces – the final frontier
Hello, sports fans. Here be a few tips to make the most of Leopards Spaces. Yarr.
Wait, sorry. I always sucked at that thing where you put words into fragments and made it all make sense (speech? cognizance? Hmmm...). Maybe that's why my father left...
Anyway, um, moving on. Check out these great tips to find out how to harness the power of Spaces.
- Stick it to the man
I mean, the window. Go into Spaces Preferences, and choose which application should 'live' in which Space. That way, you can keep your desktop organized and quickly hide some apps from prying eyes using a mouse or keyboard stroke.
The beauty is that you can then click the Dock icon in ANY Space and jump back to an application.
- Use the keyboard and mouse in perfect harmony
Try this little ditty: click the title-bar of your browser. Now hold down CMD/Apple and hit 1-4 (or more if you have more spaces). Your browser window will immediately jump to the Space you indicated by mashing the appropriate key with your well manicured/chubby finger. How's THAT for making the most of multiple input devices? Eh? Let's see you do that with your fancy new Cadillac, Dad...
- Drag and drop - not just a dating technique anymore
Hey, open up a buncha windows. Go ahead...I'll wait. Back yet? Err, well, let me move on anyway as you slowly rob your system of all available resources.
Now, do this - on your keyboard, hit the F8 key. You should see Spaces pop open. Impressive, huh?No, that's not all of the tip, sheesh. Now click a window and drag it to another Space. You can do this all day long. hell, do it enough and sooner or later someone will think you're actually doing meaningful work and might love you enough not to leave you for a Guadalajaran school marm!
You can change the keystroke from F8 by going into Spaces preferences. But you can't change the past. Sigh.
Alright folks, that's all for today. We hope you've enjoyed this venture into Space(s) and please, remember to have your Fathers spayed or neutered.
