Turn your Mac into a web server

MAMP (Mac, Apache, MySQL, php) is a free installer for those services that can turn your Mac into a full fledged web server.

MAMP is installed in the typical Mac fashion: very easily. MAMP will not compromise any existing Apache installation already running with your OS X. You can install Apache, PHP and MySQL without starting a script or having to change any configuration files!

Furthermore, if MAMP is no longer needed, it is sufficient to delete the MAMP folder and everything returns to its original status (i.e. MAMP does not modify any of the "normal" OS X).

Available also in a Pro version (which adds dDNS services amongt other things), MAMP can be had at www.mamp.info.

I'm interested to hear why MAMP is not to be used "live". If I change the MySQL password etc., is it any less secure than the built-in web sharing?
  • MAMP is awesome. I work on websites that require having a local database and webserver to get work done. When I switched to a mac this program was a godsend along with EasyEclipse for OSX I was able to get up and running in no time at all.
